Adult Ed Advent Series

From the CPC Adult Education Committee—Please join us for an upcoming 3-Part Advent Series, facilitated by Professor Jim Butler, Senior Associate Professor of Old Testament, Fuller Theological Seminary: The Birth of the Messiah: Jesus as Prophet, Priest, and King

Advent is a season of “coming,” of anticipation, of hope. As we shop, decorate, write greetings, prepare for meals and visits, and generally navigate our cultural blitz of commercially induced activities, we may long for opportunities to pause, to clear our minds, and to reflect on the hopes that nurtured Israel and the early Church.

What was the nature of Israel’s hope in a “messiah”? And can we find lines of connection between the Church’s celebration of the birth of Jesus and our own “hopes and fears through all the years”? Following ancient tradition, we will explore the meaning of the confession of Jesus as “messiah” by examining the anointed offices of prophet, priest, and king. And we will ask how we, as followers of this Messiah, can be resources for prophetic words of truth, moral clarity, and hope; for priestly reconciliation, comfort, and healing; and for royal liberation, prosperity, and peace.

Join us in person (Room 1) on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and 14 at 8:45 am for presentations and discussions.
