What Is Christian Nationalism? A Primer Led by Brad Starr, Ph.D.

Over two sessions, participants will work toward a clear definition of Christian Nationalism, survey the range of groups and figures who advocate its principles, examine its core beliefs and goals, and trace its influence on recent American politics and culture.
Unpacking On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder Led by Duane Bidwell, Ph.D., and David Menefee-Libey, Ph.D.
September 27, October 4, 11 & 18
In uncertain times, people often turn to history for guidance. Historian Timothy Snyder does exactly that in his short 2017 book, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, drawing on decades studying the rise of communism and fascism in Europe and the wars that followed. Snyder distills that history into blunt, practical counsel — for example, “Do not obey in advance,” “Make eye contact and small talk,” among others. Participants will read and discuss the book together over four Sundays, guided by the facilitators.

October 25
Ten days ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, Pomona College political scientist David Menefee-Libey will offer his assessment of where things stand nationally, with quick summaries of key Senate and House races — the candidates, their competing visions, what’s known (and unknown) about voter opinion, and the likely range of outcomes. A lively discussion will follow.
