Living Lent Together: Exploring Traditional Spiritual Practices
Five sessions: February 22, March 1, March 8, March 15, and March 22, 8:45-9:45 a.m., Room 1
In each session co-leaders Jim Butler and Jane Douglass will offer biblical and historical resources and lead exploration of their relevance for today. We will follow a pilgrim’s account of her experience of Lent in ancient Jerusalem as we consider communal practices of prayers of penitence and lament; fasting and shared disciplines; religious instruction and confession; celebration of Holy Week; baptism and new life at Easter; and the sharing of Christian experience among varying cultures.
We will ask: How can we live Lent together with the faithful across time and space and also authentically in our own time and place?
